If there could be anything said about the role of cinema in 2014, it would be, "bleh." It was a year filled with shoddy remakes and boring sequels. The brilliant Marvel and the arrogant Michael Bay dominated the box office, and Indies were few in numbers. It's safe to say that 2014 was just a rest stop for the upcoming explosion of superhero films and mega-franchises.

Witherspoon's performance mixed with the majestic Pacific Crest Trail help carry this disruptively unbalanced and unconsciously dull film.
Sunday, November 30, 2014
Horrible Bosses 2 is a decent sequel. The film doesn't outshine the original, but the creators do try new concepts to create a fun, humorous adventure.
Saturday, November 29, 2014
As this year comes to a close we now get to look forward to another slew of superhero blockbusters, retooled comedies, and artistic indies. Let us fast forward and look at the most anticipated films of 2015.

Is the virality of pop culture getting out of hand? Birdman: or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) provides deep thought and theory on the fast-paced, entertainment world.
Sunday, November 16, 2014
You cannot win an argument against an idiot. They'll barrage you with stupidity until you give up and lose. Dumb and Dumber To is too idiotically unconscious of itself to care.

Christopher Nolan might present a grand story, but creates epic faults. Interstellar misses clear opportunities and focuses on a cliched film structure. No film is without its faults. What could make Interstellar better?
Sunday, November 9, 2014
Christopher Nolan risks his career to create an emotionally impacting science-fiction epic. While Interstellar is grand in scale, Nolan throws every idea and belief he has into it, creating a gorgeous, but unbalanced film.

The One I Love is entertaining and smart, but holds itself back from its high concept plot and is too short to thoroughly enjoy.
Sunday, August 17, 2014
Expendables 3 brings an unexplainable amount of aging 80's action stars to the big screen once again. Unfortunately, the film is too safe in its execution and too dull in its action.
Let's Be Cops feels like a SNL skit stretched to a near two hour film, featuring a smorgasbord of unfunny jokes, poor character decisions, and a predictable story.
Sunday, August 10, 2014
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles can only be described as a gawd awful mess that should be erased from the minds of the world and the creators should be arrested and tried for crimes against humanity.

James Gunn has created a universe and characters that audiences will "Marvel" at. Guardians of the Galaxy is an exuberant time, but sticks to the same old Marvel formula. Every movies has its flaws. What could make Guardians of the Galaxy better?
Saturday, August 2, 2014
Though suffering from the same problems that plague every Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy still proves that Marvel can create a droll, high flying adventure from any character/team in its comic vault.
Hercules is a normal film with normal problems and normal characters. Brett Ratner doesn't try to create something extraordinary for the audience. He just creates a film to pay his mortgage. What could make Hercules better?

Director Brett Ratner throws his usual brand of blockbuster cinema at the screen, but it is Dwayne Johnson's acting that carries this film.

The Purge: Anarchy works hard on social issues and character depth while missing out on actual purging.
A raunchy, B-movie comedy that plays it too safe. Sex Tape is like the kiddie roller coaster at a Six Flags theme park: slow, generic, but just enough to keep you somewhat entertained.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is by far the best summer blockbuster of the year and one of the best films this year. The visual effects and story were on par with the symbolic meanings throughout the entire film and the excellent acting. However, every film has its flaws.
Tuesday, July 15, 2014
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is the Empire Strikes Back in the Planet of the Apes franchise. That's to put it as simple as possible.
Thursday, July 10, 2014
The current census is, Transformers: Age of Extinction is more of the same. Sadly, it's worse than that. I'm not critical of all the films in this deathly franchise. I really enjoyed Transformers (2007). Thought it was a good film. How did the franchise get worse after that? Age of Extinction is the pinnacle of what's wrong with Michael Bay and the Hollywood studio system.
Monday, July 7, 2014
Snowpiercer is ambitious, fun, and cinematically adoring. For the most part, Bong Joon-ho creates a darling masterpiece that you will want to watch over and over again.
Thursday, July 3, 2014
Tammy is a forgettable Melissa McCarthy romp about finding yourself, that outlasts its stay with lengthy jokes and a story that strays from its plot every chance it gets.
Tuesday, July 1, 2014
Just when you thought you've seen it all. Transformers: Age of Extinction is the epitome of film. It's hard to qualify this as a film. I would just say it's one large advertisement for Transformers toys and Bud Light, or a bunch of random robot battles mashed together.
Wednesday, June 18, 2014
Quite reasonably the best sequel to a comedy ever made only due to its own self recognition as a sequel. 22 Jump Street brings everything you loved from the original on a grander scale, but lacks a tantalizing story with stereotypical plot points and expendable characters.
Saturday, June 7, 2014
Cruise and Blunt show that you can still have an amazing time in theaters without being too serious. Edge of Tomorrow is the summer blockbuster with brains, but don't get too caught up with the characters.
Thursday, May 29, 2014
X-Men: Days of Future Past was a phenomenal film. Unfortunately, all films aren't perfect and there were a few things that were upsetting. What could make X-Men: Days of Future Past better?
Saturday, May 24, 2014
Director, Bryan Singer does it again, creating a masterclass superhero film with superb acting and a wonderful script. Surely, one of the best superhero films created.

Godzilla was a spectacle to behold, but should have been the main star. Instead, we were given a story that poorly balanced human aspects and monster warfare. Director, Gareth Edwards's camera work doesn't work and the audience is left wanting more. What could make Godzilla better?
Saturday, May 17, 2014
With its hand deep in visual effects, Godzilla handles better than its 1998, American predecessor, but if you're coming to watch an action film where the King of Monsters kicks ass and takes names, you might want to rethink the film you're watching.

It seems that no property is safe from rebooting hell (or heaven), even properties that are as campy as Power Rangers. The rebooting of the Power Rangers brings tears to my eyes for more than the obvious reasons and it feels like it will get worse before it gets better. This is a rant, hence the title Cinema Rant. So, this will get a bit personal and more than likely go off on tangents.

There's no denying that one of the year's best comedies features Zac Efron and his undeniably sexy body. Neighbors brings the laughs to the party along with deep characters and invoking story.

Entitling Need for Speed as one of the best street racing films in a long time would be an understatement for this adrenaline packed, helluva good time. Just don't be expecting anything more than that or you'll be deeply unimpressed.

300: Rise of an Empire was unimpressive to say the least. Riding off the success of the first 300, Rise of an Empire makes an effort at the cool stylized violence and cinematography, but ultimately creates boredom by repeating the same process over and over. What could make 300: Rise of an Empire better?
Tuesday, March 11, 2014
A film which ignores pop culture and brings out a truly remarkable story is always welcome here. Only Lovers Left Alive has potent dialogue, artfully crafted scenes and a provoking story. I'm just happy that these vampires don't sparkle.
Saturday, March 8, 2014
The annoyances brought on by this movie are too many to name. Certainly, Rise of an Empire fails at being a good action film and a good film in general. Boredom will settle in after the first five minutes, and within those five minutes, you will be bombarded with hundreds of slow motion sequences.

Winters Tale was a sad, confused little movie. How could it have been made better? Well, coming from Akiva Goldsman, most of the film could have been better.

While romantic-comedies are always enjoyable, maybe you'd want to watch a good ol' romance. From cowboys to nightclub owners, there will definitely be surprises in this Top 10 list of the best romance films ever brought to the big screen.
Director-Writer George Clooney creates half of a masterpiece, with great dialogue and most of a well rounded cast. The other half is a bit sloppy. Clooney focuses on creating memorable characters, but not many memorable sets, scenes, or story. What could make Monuments Men better?

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are becoming an unstoppable writing/directing duo. The Lego Movie provides the right kind of story, characters, laughs and tears to make this film one memorably animated jewel.
Friday, February 7, 2014
A Fantastic Fear of Everything is nothing what you expect it to be, providing a thin story to an outlandish premise. While Simon Pegg is brilliant, the rest of the cast fails at providing laughs and thrills.
