December 2018 will be a packed month for blockbusters. Paramount's Transformers spin-off Bumblebee is set to open on December 21, 2018, against Warner Bros. and DC's Aquaman and an untitled film from Fox and James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment.
Bumblebee or Aquaman will eventually change dates since there has usually never been two competing blockbusters of this magnitude released on the same date. It would be a great move for Paramount who's just come off the devastating Transformers: The Last Knight which has brought in $568 million globally off of a $217 million budget. That box office take is much smaller in North America, where the film only pulled in a minuscule $128 million.
The film takes place in 1987, where a young girl (Charlie) finds Bumblebee as a VW bug in a junkyard. Shooting will take place entirely in California and will commence in the coming weeks.
