The 2 Cents: Man of Steel 2 Pushed Back

Over the weekend, Warner Bros. announced that Man of Steel 2 would be pushed back from the original June 2015 date to May 2016. In a press release, is was stated that the studio was giving the creators "time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story."

What happened? The hype was up, the pieces were set, the cards were dealt. Warner Bros. were in place with Man of Steel 2 then everything seemed to fall apart with one quick announcement. Last weekend Warner Bros. announced that Man of Steel 2 would be pushed from its June 2015 date to May 2016, due to internal reasons. Rumors have been circulating as to why the film was pushed back. Here are the two biggest rumors to hit the web.

One rumor came from Forbes regarding a possible Justice League film in the works, directly following Man of Steel 2. The rumor mill circulated that Man of Steel 2 and Justice League would be filmed back-to-back. With all the casting announcements and rewrites, logistically it would make sense for Warner Bros. to shoot these two films one after the other. About a month ago it was announced that Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio came on to rewrite Man of Steel 2. If the Justice League rumors are true, Terrio might have been writing scenes that would give Man of Steel 2 a smooth transition into Justice League.

Another rumor from Batman-News reported that Ben Affleck injured his ribs and production was pushed back by roughly six weeks. These rumors are still floating around even though Ben Affleck has been seen looking healthy with seemingly no injuries. If this rumor is true, production would not be set back six weeks due to some broken ribs. Unless every scene involves Ben Affleck fighting in his Batsuit, Warner Bros. would not hold back production on biggest film in their studio's history.

Another, but much smaller, rumor is that Warner Bros. has learned that Man of Steel 2 has become a sloppy mess and is now trying to get back on track. This news does come on the heels of the casting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman last month, and wouldn't surprise anyone if Warner Bros. wants to reconsider some options.

However, another thought is that Justice League might be a ways down the road. With Chris Terrio rewriting the film and a super roster of characters, Man of Steel 2 might be one long film. No one would know until production is wrapped up, but there's already a lot on the table in terms of story development and characters. With seemingly so much happening, the story might have needed a major overhaul or Warner Bros. decided to create a Man of Steel 2 and Man of Steel 3 at the same time. This would mean that Justice League wouldn't see the light of day until as early as 2018.

Any thoughts? What rumor do you think is most likely true? Will the hype die down on this film? Put in your 2 cents about this superhero catastrophe.
